MUSCAT : The contract was signed by His Excellency Eng. Ahmed bin Saeed Al Amri, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, with the project implementation company. Field work on the project is set to begin in June.
The project involves the construction of an 11-kilometre dual carriageway, along with 3.5 kilometres of service roads to improve access to surrounding residential and service areas. It also includes the development of six major intersections equipped with smart traffic light systems designed to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and enhance road safety.

In addition, the project features an integrated rainwater drainage system incorporating box culverts and roadside drainage works to improve water management during adverse weather conditions. A modern energy-efficient street lighting system will also be installed.
Eng. Badr bin Ali Al-Bahri, Director General of the Directorate General of Projects and Afforestation at Muscat Municipality, said the Al-Nuzha Street duplication project is one of the key projects implemented by the municipality under its plans to develop the road network and improve operational efficiency in line with urban expansion and population growth in Muscat Governorate.
He added that the project is part of the outcomes of a comprehensive traffic study being conducted by the municipality to identify strategic and sustainable solutions to current and future traffic challenges and to improve traffic flow between residential, commercial and service areas.
The project is expected to improve traffic flow, serve residential neighbourhoods and vital facilities along the road, enhance surface water drainage efficiency and strengthen infrastructure readiness, supporting Muscat Municipality’s efforts to build a more efficient, safe and sustainable road network.
