Oman joins International Commission on Large Dams

The Sultanate of Oman has officially joined the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD), marking a significant step in strengthening its international presence in water resources management and dam engineering, officials announced.

MEXICO : The accession was confirmed during the 94th Annual Meeting of ICOLD, held in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, where the Sultanate was represented alongside global experts and specialists in the field.

The recognition reflects Oman’s growing role in international water sector forums and highlights its progress in dam engineering, water infrastructure development and the promotion of safety and sustainability standards.

Officials said membership in ICOLD will provide Oman with access to global expertise, support the adoption of international best practices, and enhance opportunities for knowledge exchange and innovation in water resources management.

The move is also expected to strengthen the participation of Omani professionals in international technical platforms and conferences, contributing to capacity building and skills development in the sector.

Authorities noted that the membership will support Oman’s broader efforts to develop water infrastructure, improve the efficiency of water resource management and enhance national water security in line with sustainable development goals.
