MUSCAT – The visa-free concession, which came into effect on May 25, 2026, applies to nationals of 40 countries, including Oman. Under the scheme, eligible travellers can obtain a Tourist Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) free of charge for stays of up to 30 days.

According to Sri Lanka’s Department of Immigration and Emigration, travellers from the eligible countries must still secure an ETA online before arriving in the country, despite the waiver of visa fees. The ETA is issued electronically by the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Battaramulla, Sri Lanka.

The free tourist visa allows double entry during its 30-day validity period. Visitors who re-enter Sri Lanka within the validity window will be granted the remaining balance of the original 30-day stay.

Sri Lankan authorities clarified that all foreign nationals, including citizens of the 40 eligible countries, are required to obtain an ETA prior to travel, except holders of Diplomatic, Official and Service passports from specified countries and certain international organizations covered under bilateral and reciprocal agreements.

Tourists from countries not included in the scheme will continue to pay applicable ETA processing fees.

Travelers planning to visit Sri Lanka are advised to complete their ETA application online before departure through the official Sri Lankan immigration portal.
