MUSCAT : The inspections are a part of the CPA’s seasonal efforts to ensure adequate livestock supply, maintain price stability, and protect consumers from unfair commercial practices ahead of Eid Al Adha.
The Authority said its field teams are conducting extensive inspections at livestock markets, holding pens, and distribution points across various governorates to monitor market activity and verify compliance with pricing regulations.
The campaigns focus on ensuring the availability of different types of livestock, monitoring buying and selling operations, detecting unjustified price increases, and preventing monopolistic practices that could affect market stability during the high-demand Eid season.
Dr Ahmed bin Said Al Busaidi, Director General of Consumer Services and Market Monitoring at the CPA, said the Authority has strengthened field monitoring efforts in response to increased consumer demand during Eid Al-Adha.
He affirmed that inspection teams are working to ensure sufficient livestock availability and stable market conditions while preventing practices that may harm consumers.
Al Busaidi noted that current market indicators confirm that livestock supplies remain sufficient to meet expected demand, adding that the Authority is coordinating closely with importers and suppliers to maintain supply chains and ensure smooth commercial movement in livestock markets.
He stressed that the CPA will not tolerate any attempts to exploit seasonal demand or impose unjustified price increases, and warned that violations would be dealt with in accordance with Oman’s Consumer Protection Law.
He also confirmed that surprise inspection campaigns will continue across livestock markets and holding facilities throughout the Eid period.
Alongside market monitoring, the Authority is continuing public awareness campaigns through media outlets and social media platforms to educate consumers about their rights, encourage price comparisons, promote smart purchasing practices, and stress the importance of obtaining invoices.
Consumers were also urged to report any violations through the Authority’s official communication channels.
The CPA further called on traders and suppliers to comply with market laws and regulations and ensure livestock are sold at fair prices and appropriate quality standards to support market stability and maintain a balanced commercial environment during the Eid Al Adha season.
