KOLKATA – According to the latest counting trends, the BJP has crossed the majority threshold of 147 seats and is currently leading in over 170 constituencies. The TMC, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is trailing at around the 100-seat mark in the initial figures.
The trends suggest a significant shift in voter preference in the eastern state, with the TMC’s influence in key regions, including the Presidency division, appearing to weaken.
If sustained, the outcome would mark one of the most significant political transitions in West Bengal in recent decades. The last comparable shift in the state’s political landscape ended the Left Front’s over three-decade-long rule.
The TMC has governed West Bengal for the past 15 years, and a final BJP victory based on current trends would represent a historic change in the state’s political direction.
Election officials are continuing the counting process, and final results are awaited.
