Japan warns of dangerous heatwave as temperatures reach record levels

The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a heatwave warning as parts of the country experience dangerously high temperatures.

TOKYO – Japan’s public broadcaster NHK reported that wide areas stretching from the Tohoku region in northeastern Japan to Kyushu in the southwest are recording unprecedented heat levels, with heatstroke risks reported across 42 of Japan’s 47 prefectures.

Authorities have urged residents to avoid prolonged outdoor activities, use air conditioning where possible and drink plenty of fluids to prevent heat-related illnesses.
