MUSCAT : Nama Water Services continues to roll out an ambitious package of projects aimed at strengthening water supply systems and expanding service coverage across North Al Sharqiyah. The initiative is part of a broader sustainable development vision aligned with the rapid urban and population growth in the governorate, while reinforcing water security in Oman.

Mohammed bin Harb Al-Makhmari, Director General of Sector Projects Implementation in Al Sharqiyah Governorate, said the projects are built on efficiency and sustainability. He noted that the goal is to maximise water resource utilisation, enhance network readiness, and improve the system’s ability to meet rising demand while supporting future urban expansion.

A key highlight is the ongoing second phase of the water networks project in Al Mudhaibi, with an investment exceeding RO 15 million. The project extends services to several villages, including Khadra Bani Dafaa, Al Khashba, Al Sadeera, Al Muntarib, Al Mutayli’, Al Washahi, Al Wafi, Al Khurais, Al Tasawir, and Al Majazah. It includes the construction of 40 kilometres of transmission lines, 217 kilometres of distribution networks, as well as a pumping station and an elevated tank.

Currently 26 per cent complete, the project is expected to be finalised by the second quarter of 2027. Once completed, it will provide reliable water access to more than 4,000 homes, reducing reliance on temporary solutions and significantly improving quality of life in the targeted communities.

In parallel, work has begun on one of the largest water projects in the governorate in Dima and Al-Taiyyin, with an investment exceeding RO 28 million. The project will establish an integrated water transport and distribution system extending from Al-Jarda to Mahlah and reaching Al-Rahba in Bidbid. It includes 77.8 kilometres of main transmission lines, nearly 291 kilometres of distribution networks, pumping stations, storage tanks with capacities of up to 4,000 cubic metres, and tanker filling stations. The project is expected to deliver more than 6,200 water connections for current and future households.

Additionally, Nama Water Services has completed the water network project in the Al-Qaa area of Ibra at a cost of around RO 290,000, with connection applications now open. The project is expected to benefit more than 4,000 residents by improving service delivery speed and expanding coverage.

These developments complement a major strategic project linking water transmission systems between North and South Al Sharqiyah, recently inaugurated at a cost of RO 129 million. The project spans 312 kilometres of transmission lines and includes four new pumping stations, upgrades to three existing stations, and the construction of 17 water tanks with a total capacity of 265,000 cubic metres, supported by advanced monitoring and control systems.
