MUSCAT – The initiative targets 90 participants, including front-line employees from government entities, military institutions, and the private sector, as well as job seekers. It reflects the Consumer Protection Authority’s commitment to improving communication channels with the deaf and mute community and promoting sign language as a vital tool for social integration.
This effort aligns with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, which emphasise social cohesion and the active participation of all segments of society.
The initiative is being delivered through a two-day workshop held from April 22 to 23, coinciding with Arab Deaf Week. It aims to raise awareness of the importance of sign language, equip government employees with basic communication skills, involve members of the deaf community in awareness activities, and support job seekers in developing skills that enhance their readiness for the labour market. Organisers affirmed that ‘Language of Hope… Bridges Without Borders’ is more than a training programme; it is a community-driven message highlighting the power of sign language to break barriers and foster effective communication.
