MUSCAT – The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) in Muscat, represented by the Department of Combating Commercial Fraud, has seized large quantities of counterfeit electrical switches, sockets, and LED lighting products that were being marketed as genuine goods under well-known international trademarks, in violation of consumer protection laws.
The authority said the operation followed intensive investigations that revealed the accused had engaged in trademark counterfeiting and deliberately misled consumers by presenting the products as original. The violations also included falsifying purchase invoices and country-of-origin information to give the counterfeit goods a false sense of authenticity and secure unlawful financial gains.

A total of 15,418 lighting products bearing the Samsung trademark and 104,057 electrical switch products carrying the LG trademark were confiscated during the operation.
Following the completion of legal procedures and investigations, the case was referred to the competent court, which issued a conviction based on the evidence presented. The court sentenced the supplier to three years’ imprisonment, ordered permanent deportation, and imposed a fine of RO 10,000.
Although an appeal was filed, the court ruled it inadmissible, upholding the validity of the original judgment and procedures.
