MUSCAT – Observed annually, the occasion recognises the contribution of laboratory professionals to modern healthcare, particularly in supporting accurate diagnosis, guiding medical decisions, and improving treatment outcomes.
Dr. Hanan bint Salem Al Kindi, Director of the Central Public Health Laboratory Department, said the Central Public Health Laboratory, inaugurated in January 2026, represents a strategic milestone in enhancing Oman’s health security and epidemiological surveillance capabilities.
She noted that the facility enables rapid and precise detection of infectious diseases and emerging health threats, while serving as a national and regional reference centre aligned with international standards, in collaboration with bodies such as the World Health Organization.

Medical laboratory technician Dalal bint Khamis Al Yahyaei highlighted the sector’s critical role in early diagnosis, disease monitoring, and treatment evaluation, stressing that accuracy is essential as a large share of medical decisions depend on laboratory results.
She added that advanced technologies and artificial intelligence have enhanced laboratory efficiency and precision, while human expertise remains central to interpreting results and ensuring patient safety.
Reflecting on experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, she said such challenges strengthened professional commitment, noting growing interest among Omani youth in specializing in medical laboratory sciences.
