MUSCAT : The court found the business guilty of failing to properly provide services in the aluminium and metalworks sector, as well as not issuing invoices in Arabic, in breach of Royal Decree No. 66/2014 and its executive regulations. It also ordered the defendants to bear all criminal case expenses, while referring related civil claims filed by affected consumers to the competent civil court.
The case stems from multiple complaints received by the Consumer Protection Authority’s department in Barka from customers who had contracted the same establishment for the fabrication and installation of doors and windows. Complainants said the company delayed project completion, delivered work that did not meet agreed specifications, and demanded full payment before finishing the jobs, citing lack of liquidity.
Several consumers subsequently filed formal complaints with the Consumer Protection Authority, seeking either completion of the work or refunds of advance payments.
During investigations, the owner admitted entering into contracts with customers and delaying execution due to financial constraints.
Following review of the cases, the court convicted the establishment and its owner of the misdemeanour of failing to provide services in a proper manner consistent with their nature.
