Muscat: In a statement, the Ministry confirmed that individuals wishing to run for membership in municipal councils must submit their applications through the official Elections application or via the elections website (elections.om). Applicants are required to complete the designated electronic form and upload all necessary supporting documents within the specified timeframe.

The Ministry urged eligible citizens to take advantage of the nomination period and ensure that all requirements are met prior to submission.

According to Article (10) of the Municipal Councils Law, candidates must fulfill a set of criteria to qualify for nomination. These include holding Omani nationality and being at least 30 years of age. Candidates must also demonstrate good character and conduct, and must not have been convicted of a felony or crimes involving moral turpitude or dishonesty, unless they have been legally rehabilitated.

Additionally, applicants must not suffer from any mental illness or be under judicial guardianship. A minimum academic qualification of a general education diploma is required, and candidates must be registered in the electoral roll of the state they intend to represent.

The law further stipulates that candidates must not be employed by any security or military entity, must not hold membership in the State Council or Shura Council, and must not be residing or working outside the Sultanate of Oman.
