MUSCAT – Among the proposals discussed at the session – held under the chairmanship of His Excellency Sheikh Abdulmalik bin Abdullah Al Khalili, Chairman of the State Council – was the Draft Law on Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, in line with Article 50 of the Council of Oman Law.
The amendments aim to implement the objectives of the National Strategy for Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, enhance deterrence, and address recent developments in the field of narcotic and psychotropic substance control.
The council also examined the Draft Law Amending Some Provisions of the Bylaw on Protecting Personal Data, the Draft Law Amending Some Provisions of the Penal Code, and the Draft Unified Law for International Land Transport between Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) States, under the provisions of Article 49 of the Council of Oman Law.


The Penal Code amendments are designed to complement Oman’s efforts under the United Nations Convention against Corruption, strengthen anti-corruption measures, enhance corporate governance in the private sector, and protect the country’s economic interests while improving the Sultanate’s ranking on the Corruption Perceptions Index.
The Personal Data Protection Law amendments include defining automated processing, clarifying the law’s scope to cover personal data processed inside or outside Oman, and establishing obligations for controllers and processors to delete or retain data in accordance with legal requirements, disputes, or judicial rulings.
