MUSCAT — The death toll from heavy rains and flash floods in Oman has risen to four over the past 24 hours, authorities said on Sunday, as rescue teams carried out multiple operations in flood-hit areas.

According to emergency authorities, two people died after their vehicle was swept into a wadi in Wilayat Al Maabilah, while a separate incident in Wilayat Barka, South Al Batinah Governorate, left two people dead and one still missing after a vehicle carrying 10 people was caught in floodwaters.

Rescue teams from the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) said they managed to rescue seven people from the Barka incident, while search operations remain ongoing for the missing individual.

The National Committee for Emergency Management said the series of incidents brings the total number of fatalities recorded in the past 24 hours to four.

The fatalities come as intense rainfall affected several parts of the Sultanate, including Muscat, South and North Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah and Al Dhahirah, leading to rising water levels in wadis and flooding in low-lying areas.

Emergency teams were deployed across affected regions, carrying out rescues of stranded motorists and residents, while authorities worked to manage traffic disruptions caused by water accumulation on roads.

Officials have repeatedly warned against crossing flooded wadis, stressing that fast-moving currents can sweep away vehicles within seconds.

Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority has forecast continued unstable weather, with thunderstorms, strong downdraft winds and the possibility of hail expected to impact several governorates.
