Oman Airports see passenger traffic rise 8.8% to 1.45 million in January 2026

Passenger traffic across the airports of the Sultanate of Oman recorded steady growth at the start of 2026, with total travellers rising by 8.8 per cent by the end of January compared to the same period last year.

MUSCAT : According to the latest statistics, the total number of passengers travelling through Oman’s airports, including arrivals, departures and transit, reached 1,452,911 passengers by the end of January 2026, compared to 1,334,825 passengers during the same period in 2025.

The number of international flights operating through various airports in Oman reached 8,032 flights, marking a 2.7 per cent increase from 7,820 flights recorded in January 2025.

Muscat International Airport continued to handle the largest share of air traffic. The airport recorded 7,594 international flights by the end of January 2026, up from 7,410 flights during the same period last year, representing a 2.5 per cent increase. Passenger numbers on these international routes also rose to 1,189,938 passengers, compared to 1,109,650 passengers in January 2025, a 7.2 per cent growth.

Domestic travel through Muscat also saw a strong increase. The number of domestic flights reached 773, while passenger numbers climbed to 107,423 travellers, compared to 93,895 passengers during the same period last year, marking a 14.4 per cent rise.

At Salalah Airport, air traffic recorded notable growth as well. The total number of international and domestic flights increased by 11.4 per cent, reaching 916 flights by the end of January 2026, compared to 822 flights during the same period in 2025. Passenger numbers surged by 19.2 per cent, reaching 150,785 passengers, compared to 126,506 passengers last year.

The airport handled 428 international flights, representing a 5.9 per cent increase compared to 404 flights, while domestic flights reached 488, marking a 16.7 per cent increase from 418 flights in January 2025.

Meanwhile, Sohar Airport recorded a sharp rise in operations, with the total number of international and domestic flights reaching 18 flights, compared to 10 flights during the same period last year, reflecting an 80 per cent increase.

At Duqm Airport, the number of domestic flights reached 52 flights by the end of January, while passenger traffic recorded a slight decline of 0.5 per cent, with 4,749 passengers compared to 4,774 passengers during the same period in 2025.

In terms of nationalities, Omani citizens topped the list of travellers through Muscat International Airport in January 2026, recording a total of 195,657 passengers, including 98,339 arrivals and 97,318 departures.

Indian nationals ranked second, with 187,904 passengers, including 96,031 arrivals and 91,873 departures, while Pakistani nationals placed third, with a total of 48,546 travellers, including 24,059 arrivals and 24,487 departures.
