MUSCAT : Born on October 5, 1940, in Muscat, His Highness completed his higher education at Cairo University in 1965 with a specialization in economics, followed by a master’s degree in political science and economics from the Sorbonne University in 1970. He was fluent in Arabic, French, and English.
His Highness began his career during the reign of Sultan Qaboos bin Said, serving in key government roles including Minister of Foreign Affairs (1971–1973), Minister of Information and Culture (1973–1979), Deputy Prime Minister for Legal Affairs (1979–1994), and Deputy Prime Minister for Cabinet Affairs from 1994 until 2026.
He also held several senior positions, such as Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Conferences of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, Chairman of the Council of Sultan Qaboos University, Chairman of the Supreme Committee of the Royal Opera House Muscat, and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Five-Year Development Plans.
Over his career, His Highness represented Oman in numerous international forums and Gulf and Arab summits, strengthening diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties with countries including Japan, Iran, Thailand, South Korea, Singapore, and many Arab nations.
Known for his calm diplomacy, sound judgment, and eloquence, His Highness played a pivotal role in shaping Oman’s public policies, contributing significantly to the country’s development and modernization. He served the Sultanate with distinction for nearly 56 years, earning recognition for his commitment, wisdom, and leadership.
