AHMEDABAD: Defending champions India produced a commanding all-round performance to defeat New Zealand by 96 runs and lift the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, securing their third title in the tournament’s history.

In a thrilling final in Ahmedabad, India first delivered a stunning batting display to post a massive 255 for 5 in 20 overs, putting New Zealand under immense pressure from the outset.

Leading the charge was Sanju Samson, who played a sensational knock of 89, anchoring India’s innings with a blend of power and precision. He was well supported by Ishan Kishan (54) and Abhishek Sharma (52), both of whom struck explosive half-centuries to maintain India’s relentless scoring rate.

A late flourish from Shivam Dube, who smashed an unbeaten 26, ensured India crossed the 250-run mark, setting New Zealand a daunting target of 256.

In reply, New Zealand struggled to keep pace with the required run rate as India’s bowlers applied relentless pressure. Regular breakthroughs prevented the Black Caps from building meaningful partnerships, eventually restricting them well short of the target and sealing a comprehensive 96-run victory for India.

The triumph marks another historic chapter for Indian cricket as the team successfully defended their title and reaffirmed their dominance in the shortest format of the game.
