Colombo: India won the toss and elected to bat first as they looked to build on their 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series. The visitors entered the Colombo encounter after registering a convincing 165-run victory in the opening Test in Galle.
Jaiswal began positively, finding the boundary on a few occasions and helping India settle into their innings. However, the Sri Lankan attack broke through in the 17th over, dismissing the opener for 33 off 47 deliveries.
Devdutt Padikkal then walked in as India looked to rebuild and establish a strong first-innings total in conditions that could become increasingly challenging as the match progresses.

The wicket provided Sri Lanka with an important early breakthrough as the hosts seek to bounce back and avoid a series defeat. India, meanwhile, are chasing a 2-0 series sweep in the second and final Test.
Weather could also play a part in the five-day contest, with rain remaining a factor in Colombo. With the series on the line and both teams looking to seize control early, Jaiswal’s departure added the first major twist to what promises to be an absorbing Test at the SSC.
