Oman’s fisheries reel in RO 481 million by November 2025

The total value of fish landed in the Sultanate of Oman from artisanal, coastal, and commercial fishing reached approximately RO 481.004 million by the end of November 2025.

MUSCAT : Preliminary statistics issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI) revealed that the total quantity of fish landed across the Sultanate reached 723,011 tonnes by the end of November 2025, compared to 691,276 tonnes during the same period in 2024, reflecting a 4.6 per cent growth.

Artisanal fishing continued to dominate the sector, with quantities rising 3.1 per cent to 641,836 tonnes, up from 622,646 tonnes recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.

Among the governorates, Al Wusta topped the list in terms of artisanal fish landings with 220,813 tonnes, followed by South Al Sharqiyah with 196,652 tonnes. The North and South Al Batinah governorates together recorded 77,288 tonnes, while Dhofar reported 65,510 tonnes. Musandam registered 47,059 tonnes, and Muscat accounted for 34,514 tonnes of artisanal fish landings.

Commercial fishing witnessed a notable rise, increasing 20.4 per cent to reach 73,614 tonnes by the end of November 2025, compared to 61,144 tonnes during the same period in 2024. Coastal fishing also recorded a slight growth of 1 per cent, reaching 7,561 tonnes, up from 7,486 tonnes in 2024.

In terms of species composition, small surface fish dominated artisanal landings with 326,792 tonnes, followed by large surface fish at 194,377 tonnes, and demersal fish at 93,162 tonnes.

Meanwhile, sharks accounted for 6,752 tonnes, while crustaceans and mollusks reached 10,612 tonnes. Other unclassified species totalled 10,143 tonnes, highlighting the diversity of Oman’s marine resources.
