MUSCAT – The federation said the provision is stipulated in Article 50 of Royal Decree No. 92/2025, which grants the benefit to employees who have disabilities themselves or who care for a parent, child or spouse with a qualifying disability.
The decree also requires government entities to allocate 5 percent of their job positions to qualified persons with disabilities. Similarly, private sector employers with 40 or more employees must reserve 5 per cent of available positions for qualified candidates with disabilities nominated by the relevant authority, in accordance with Article 48 of the law.
According to the legislation, the relevant authority is responsible for nominating eligible candidates based on its official database, and the requirement applies to all categories of disability.
The law further affirms the right of persons with disabilities to access training, employment and job placement services, as well as sheltered workshops and life insurance against occupational risks.
In addition, individuals with disabilities are eligible for loans and financial support through national funding programmes and initiatives supporting small and medium-sized enterprises and income-generating projects, in line with applicable regulations.
