Tehran: The development comes just hours after Iranian state media confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei following widespread strikes across the country.

According to Iranian state TV, Abdul Rahim Mousavi, who served as the Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, was killed in the attacks that began early Saturday morning (local time). The announcement marks a significant blow to Iran’s military leadership amid intensifying hostilities in the region.

The confirmation followed earlier reports from Iranian state media that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei had also been killed in the same wave of strikes conducted by Israel and the United States.

US President Donald Trump reacted to the developments on his social media platform Truth Social, describing Khamenei as “one of the worst figures in history” and stating that he had been killed.

Meanwhile, Israeli broadcaster Channel 12, citing senior military officials, reported that Khamenei’s body was discovered in the rubble of the presidential palace after the bombardment.
