MUSCAT – The approvals came during the Council’s second meeting of the 2025–2026 academic year, which was chaired by Her Excellency Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed Al Shaibani, Minister of Education and Chair of the University Council, in the presence of His Highness Sayyid Dr. Fahd bin Al Julanda Al Said, Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Chair, along with council members.

During the session, the Council reviewed updates on the progress of work across the University and assessed the implementation of decisions and recommendations issued at previous meetings.

In line with SQU’s mission to strengthen engagement with its graduates and promote sustainable partnerships that support its academic and research goals, the Council approved the regulatory framework for the Alumni Association.

The Council also endorsed a new policy allowing students to enrol directly in their chosen specialisations upon admission to the University. The decision applies to programmes offered by the Colleges of Engineering, Science, and Arts and Social Sciences, and forms part of broader efforts to enhance admission policies and improve educational outcomes.

Additionally, the Council approved the target intake numbers for undergraduate programmes for the 2026/2027 academic year.

At the conclusion of the meeting, members commended ongoing efforts across the University and stressed the importance of continuing to implement SQU’s strategic plans.
