MUSCAT : The Ministry emphasised that employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthy working environment that takes into consideration the unique conditions of Ramadan. This includes monitoring employee fatigue and taking necessary measures to reduce it, reducing working hours for physically demanding jobs – especially those performed under direct sunlight – providing flexible work schedules to avoid extended shifts, and minimizing workplace stress.
Employers are also encouraged to raise awareness of potential risks and preventive measures, ensure the availability of first aid supplies and emergency response protocols, provide cool water for washing, and maintain the supply of personal protective equipment (PPE). Additionally, employers should oversee journey management procedures and avoid unnecessary travel during the month.
For employees, the Ministry advised practices to safeguard health and well-being during fasting hours. These include ensuring adequate daily sleep, delaying Suhoor while consuming fibre-rich foods, drinking sufficient water, avoiding caffeine and sugary drinks at Iftar, adhering to the use of PPE, informing supervisors of any chronic illnesses or medications, and following all occupational health and safety instructions.
