MUSCAT : Oman’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion has issued a warning to private companies, establishments, media entities and social media influencers, prohibiting them from advertising, promoting or soliciting charitable and humanitarian initiatives without obtaining the necessary government permits.

In a notice issued on Tuesday, the ministry said the directive applies to businesses operating in sectors such as water well drilling, aflaj repair and maintenance, construction contracting, online commercial brokerage and private media services.

The ministry stressed that these entities are not permitted to promote, advertise or invite participation in charitable activities unless they have secured the required licences and approvals from the competent authorities.

The restriction covers the collection of cash and in-kind donations, as well as the implementation and promotion of water well drilling projects and other charitable initiatives both within Oman and abroad.

The ministry also urged advertisers, promoters and social media influencers to verify that organisations possess valid licences specifically authorising charitable or humanitarian activities before publishing or sharing promotional content.

It clarified that holding a commercial licence for regular business operations does not automatically grant companies the right to conduct, market or promote charitable projects.

The ministry called on all parties to comply with the regulations and ensure that charitable activities are carried out through properly licensed channels, in line with the Sultanate’s legal framework governing donations and humanitarian work.
