MUSCAT : Oman’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has confirmed that the chat feature on messaging application Telegram is available and open for use in the Sultanate, a senior official said.

Engineer Faisal Al Shukaili from the TRA said the app’s chat function can be accessed and used in Oman, clarifying public queries surrounding the platform’s operational status.

Telegram had previously been accessible only through virtual private networks (VPNs), according to users, who said direct access to the service was restricted.

Several users told The Arabian Stories that they are now able to access the platform without the use of a VPN, expressing excitement over the development and describing it as a welcome move for communication and business use.
