Dubai- On February 17, 2026, a rare annular solar eclipse will occur, creating a striking ‘ring of fire’ effect as the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun. While the eclipse will not be visible in its full annular phase everywhere, residents in parts of the Middle East — including the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman — as well as areas of South Asia and Africa, will be able to witness the phenomenon.

Astronomers describe the event as the first major solar eclipse of 2026, with skywatchers around the world preparing through observation gatherings and educational programs. The annular path, during which the Sun appears as a bright ring surrounding the Moon, will cross several countries, offering a remarkable spectacle for scientists and the public alike.

Observers are strongly advised not to look directly at the Sun without proper eye protection, as doing so may cause serious and permanent eye damage. Special eclipse-viewing glasses or certified solar filters must be used to ensure safe viewing.
