MUSCAT : The launch ceremony, held at the Royal Opera House Muscat under the patronage of Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al-Murshidi, President of the Oman Investment Authority, marks a pivotal shift in Omantel’s evolution from a traditional telecommunications operator into an integrated national technology powerhouse.

H.E. Mulham bin Bashir Al-Jaraf, Deputy President of the Oman Investment Authority for Investment and Chairman of Omantel, described the launch of Otech as a strategic consolidation of Omantel’s position in the digital ecosystem.

He said the move reflects a carefully structured transition toward a modern technology-driven model aligned with Oman Vision 2040 and the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, particularly under the digital economy pillar.

Al-Jaraf stressed that Omantel’s strategy views technological transformation as an integrated ecosystem, modernising infrastructure, introducing advanced digital solutions, building national capabilities, enhancing business models, and generating sustainable economic value. He added that Omani citizens remain at the core of this transformation through targeted training and qualification in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and advanced digital solutions.

Eng. Aladdin bin Abdullah Baitfadhil, Chief Executive Officer of Omantel and Chairman of Otech, said the launch marks a qualitative transformation in both the company’s journey and Oman’s digital sector.

“Otech lays the foundations for a new era centred on innovation, competitiveness and economic diversification,” he stated, noting that the unified technology ecosystem will strengthen Oman’s regional standing as a telecommunications and technology hub.

He emphasised that Otech will empower stakeholders to adopt and develop future technologies with confidence, ensuring resilience, long-term readiness, and a stronger global digital presence.

During the ceremony, Otech unveiled a broad network of partnerships with leading global and local technology players, including:

Oracle Corporation for hyperscale computing platforms via Oracle Alloy

PwC to develop cybersecurity solutions and build local capabilities

Nagarro for systems integration in emerging technologies

Palo Alto Networks through Unit 42 for cyber threat intelligence and incident response

Fortinet for cloud-enabled SASE cybersecurity solutions

Additional collaborations include Nama Shared Services and Omani tech startups such as Orki, Decoil, and Remedy, focusing on AI-driven recruitment, generative AI enterprise platforms, and AI-powered execution systems.

Eng. Maqbool bin Salem Al-Wuhaibi, Acting CEO of Otech, highlighted the integration of Oman Data Park into the Otech ecosystem as a major step in strengthening national digital infrastructure.

As part of its digital sovereignty strategy, Otech launched the “Farq” Data Centre, designed to support mission-critical systems with secure, scalable and resilient infrastructure operating around the clock.

Otech now operates Oman’s most diverse cloud ecosystem and has become the first company in the Middle East accredited by Amazon Web Services to deliver sovereign cloud services. Its integrated cloud platform supports public, hybrid and hyperscaler environments, backed by partnerships with global leaders including Google Cloud and Huawei.

Beyond infrastructure, Otech is positioning itself as a trusted national technology enabler and single point of contact for ICT solutions. It unifies Omantel’s digital assets, including Oman Data Park and Tadoom, under a single operating model, enhancing efficiency and delivering local and regional added value.

The company is also introducing specialised career pathways and continuous training programmes to prepare Omani talent for leadership roles in future technologies, reinforcing workforce readiness for the digital economy.

The launch of Otech comes amid rapid growth in the ICT services market, driven by government digital transformation initiatives and expanding digital economy ambitions.

By combining global expertise with national capabilities, Otech aims not only to localise advanced technologies but also to export Omani technology solutions regionally and globally, opening promising pathways for innovation, competitiveness and sustainable economic diversification.
