Oman’s Shura Council opens joint session to resolve key law disputes

The first joint sitting of the third regular session of the eighth term of the Shura Council commenced, to deliberate on a slate of draft laws referred by the Council of Ministers.

Muscat: The session is being chaired by His Excellency Sheikh Abdulmalik bin Abdullah Al-Khalili, Chairman of the State Council, and is attended by His Excellency Khalid bin Hilal Al-Mawali, Chairman of the Shura Council. Also present are honourable guests, members of both Councils, and the Secretaries General of the two Councils.

The joint sitting is focused on reviewing and resolving disputed articles in several legislative drafts, including the Real Estate Register Law, the Civil Society Institutions Law, amendments to the Arbitration Law in Civil and Commercial Disputes issued by Royal Decree No. (47/97), the Information Technology Crimes Law, amendments to the Cultural Heritage Law, the National Spatial Data and Information Law, and the Sports Bodies Law.

Discussions are being held in accordance with the procedures governing joint sessions between the two Councils.
