A Life That Touched Thousands: Remembering Dr. C. Thomas

For many, Dr. Thomas was the go-to person, a doctor you trusted without hesitation, a mentor you could rely on, and a human being who listened before he spoke. His doors, and his heart, were always open, writes Nishad Padiyarath.

Some people leave behind more than memories; they leave behind warmth.

I had the privilege of knowing Dr. Chona Thomas for many years. In all those years, what stood out most was not just his stature as a medical pioneer, but his generosity of spirit. He would often reach out to appreciate my writings, a gesture that always stayed with me, because it came from someone who had achieved so much, yet remained deeply humble.

I had the honour of meeting him on several occasions. Every meeting felt less like an appointment and more like a conversation with someone who genuinely cared, about people, about ideas, about the stories that shape a society. He was thoughtful, encouraging, and always present in the moment.

At The Arabian Stories, Dr. Thomas was not just a feature; he was part of our journey. He was featured on multiple occasions, and rightly honoured as a TAS ICON, recognising a life dedicated to Oman and its people. Each interaction reaffirmed why he was so widely respected and deeply loved.

For many, Dr. Thomas was the go-to person, a doctor you trusted without hesitation, a mentor you could rely on, and a human being who listened before he spoke. His doors, and his heart, were always open.

Oman was not just where he worked; it was where he belonged. That bond was reflected in the rare honours he received, Omani citizenship and the Order of Oman from the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said, acknowledgements reserved for those who truly leave a mark on the nation.

Dr. Thomas may no longer be with us, but his presence will always be felt, in the lives he healed, the professionals he guided, and the quiet encouragement he offered so generously.

It was an honour to know you, doctor.
You will be remembered, fondly, gratefully, and always.
