MUSCAT – Oman will introduce a value-added tax (VAT) refund service for tourists, the chairman of the Tax Authority said, as the sultanate moves to enhance its appeal as a regional tourism destination.
His Excellency Nasser Khamis Al Jashmi said the government plans to roll out the initiative after finalising agreements with companies that will operate the refund service, including terms on applicable costs and refund percentages.
“The service will be implemented once arrangements are concluded with the providers regarding fees and refund rates,” Al Jashmi said, without giving a specific launch date.

The move is expected to align Oman with several regional markets that already offer VAT refunds to visitors, supporting tourism spending while maintaining the country’s indirect tax framework.
