MUSCAT – The Ministry stated that the decision to mandate premarital medical examinations aims to enable the early detection of hereditary blood disorders and infectious diseases, and to provide appropriate medical advice to couples prior to marriage.

It explained that the decision seeks to reduce the transmission of certain inherited blood disorders and infectious diseases, and to protect children from the suffering associated with contracting such conditions. It also aims to lessen the social, psychological, and financial burdens that families may face when children are affected by these diseases.

In this context, the Ministry of Health has called on all citizens intending to marry – whether an Omani citizen or a foreign national – to complete the required premarital medical examination procedures at government health institutions or licensed private health institutions to conduct such examinations.
The Ministry stressed that marriage procedures will not be finalized until both parties have completed the premarital medical examinations, underscoring the importance of this step in safeguarding public health.
