MUSCAT – Reports indicate that Washington has agreed to Tehran’s request to shift the venue of the talks from Türkiye to Oman, as discussions continue over whether additional regional parties may participate. Iran has also reportedly sought to limit the agenda to bilateral discussions focused solely on nuclear-related issues.
The proposed change in location and scope comes amid rising regional tensions, with the United States increasing its military presence in the Middle East. Diplomatic efforts by regional actors have intensified in recent days in an attempt to defuse the standoff and prevent further escalation.
The situation has been further complicated by recent military incidents, including the downing of an Iranian drone near a US aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea. US President Donald Trump has warned that failure to reach an agreement could lead to serious consequences.
US officials have confirmed that talks with Iran are planned later this week, while Iran’s Foreign Ministry has said consultations on the venue are ongoing. According to Iranian media, several countries, including Oman and Türkiye, have expressed readiness to host the negotiations.
