MUSCAT — Oman’s Public Prosecution said on Monday that investigations into the deaths of a family of six in Al Amerat found no direct or indirect criminal responsibility on the part of any individual or authority, and that the case has been closed.

The case relates to the deaths of a husband, wife and their four children, who were found dead in their home in the Al Atkiyah area of the Wilayat of Al Amerat last year.

Speaking during the Public Prosecution’s annual media briefing, the Public Prosecutor said investigations were carried out swiftly, with relevant authorities fully cooperating in providing required data. The findings showed no negligence or wrongdoing linked to the incident, he said, adding that information circulated on social media about the case was inaccurate.

Security authorities had earlier said the family likely died after inhaling carbon monoxide while asleep. In a statement posted on its X account, the Royal Oman Police said its operations centre received an emergency call reporting the deaths, and that preliminary findings indicated possible exposure to a gas leak during the night.

The Public Prosecutor said the case file had been formally archived following the completion of legal procedures, stressing that conclusions were based on verified evidence and technical findings rather than speculation.

The remarks were made as officials addressed public concern over high-profile incidents involving loss of life, reiterating the importance of relying on official investigations and confirmed information.
