Muscat: The project, valued at approximately RO 3 million, is part of the Ministry’s wider efforts to enhance the efficiency and development of fishing ports across the Sultanate. Speaking to Oman News Agency, Eng. Abdulnasser bin Obad Ghawas, Director of the Fisheries Department at the General Directorate of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources in Dhofar Governorate, said construction works are continuing in line with the approved timeline.
He noted that the development of the Raysut fishing port in Salalah aims to support fishermen and strengthen fisheries activity in the wilayat. The rehabilitation works include the construction of a 610-metre breakwater, a fixed pier measuring 60 metres, and a 250-metre rock tongue designed to protect the port from sand and silt encroachment.
The project also covers the construction of boat sleds, the paving of a one-kilometre internal road linking the existing road to the fixed pier, installation of lighting systems, rainwater drainage works, and the dredging of around 100,000 cubic metres of sand from the port basin. In addition, adjacent land reclamation covering about 30,000 square metres is being carried out near the fixed pier.
