MUSCAT – Golf in the Sultanate of Oman is witnessing notable growth, particularly in the discovery and development of young national talents, driven by ongoing efforts of the Oman Golf Federation to expand participation and enhance competitiveness at the regional and continental levels.
In recent years, several Omani golfers have made strong appearances in Gulf and Arab championships, with national teams across different age groups achieving commendable results, including medals at Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) tournaments at both team and individual levels. These achievements reflect the technical progress of the sport within the Sultanate.
Fayez bin Mohammed Riyad, Vice Chairman of the Oman Golf Association, told the Oman News Agency that the Association places strong emphasis on junior development through regular training camps, participation in international competitions to gain experience, and the hosting of regional tournaments that allow players to interact with diverse golfing schools.

He noted that modern infrastructure, including internationally certified golf courses and indoor training facilities, has created an ideal environment for year-round training. Riyad added that Omani players have demonstrated their capabilities across various age groups in Gulf competitions, reinforcing confidence in their ability to represent Oman in upcoming events. He also highlighted the gradual increase in female participation in golf as part of broader plans to support women’s involvement and nurture female talent.
Riyad stressed that current achievements represent a solid foundation for the future of golf in Oman, underlining the importance of sustained development programs, increased international exposure, and long-term support for talented players to progress from regional competition to continental and international levels.

Meanwhile, Timur bin Ghalib Al Busaidi, a member of the national junior golf team, said that the medals and advanced rankings achieved recently reflect the effectiveness of talent development efforts. He noted that securing gold, silver and bronze medals at Gulf championships demonstrates the advanced technical standards reached by golfers in Oman and the wider Gulf region.
Al Busaidi added that the strong performance of Oman’s under-13 team at the Gulf Championship for girls and age groups, hosted by the Sultanate, marked an important milestone and reflected regional confidence in the organizational and technical capabilities of the Oman Golf Federation. He attributed these successes to intensive training camps and structured development programs.
For his part, national team player Youssef bin Azzan Al Rumhi said that the improved performances of Omani golfers in various tournaments serve as strong motivation to continue developing their skills. He noted that regional participation provides valuable competitive experience and contributes to raising technical standards.

Al Rumhi highlighted that winning gold in the individual category and the under-13 national team’s silver medal at the Gulf Golf Championship represent significant achievements and strong incentives to continue striving for excellence, with the ultimate goal of building successful sporting careers and raising Oman’s profile in international golf.
