MUSCAT – Oman has completed all technical studies related to the Musandam Airport project and is expected to approve its implementation plan during the course of the current year, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said on Monday.
The completion of the studies marks a key step toward advancing the long-planned airport, which is intended to address operational challenges at the existing Khasab Airport, including limitations on round-the-clock flight operations.
As per earlier reports, the project is being developed in phases and is designed to enhance air connectivity to the northern governorate, supporting tourism, logistics and broader economic development.

The first phase includes the construction of a passenger terminal with an annual handling capacity of 250,000 passengers, an air traffic control tower, taxiways, aircraft parking stands, a fire station, equipment maintenance facilities and a marine rescue station. The initial runway will measure 2,520 metres in length and 45 metres in width, alongside a new 7-kilometre access road linking the airport to surrounding areas.
In the second phase, the runway will be extended to 3,300 metres, enabling the airport to accommodate wide-body aircraft such as Airbus A330s and A350s, as well as Boeing 787s and 777s. The expansion will also include additional taxiways, aircraft parking areas, an aircraft isolation yard and, if required, an expanded terminal building.
