MUSCAT – The average inflation rate for the period from January to December 2025 also increased by 1 percent.
Data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) showed that the miscellaneous personal goods and services group recorded the highest price increase at 10 percent, followed by transport (2.8 percent), restaurants and hotels (2.6 percent), furniture, household equipment and maintenance (2.4 percent), and education (2.2 percent).
Prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 1.1 percent, clothing and footwear by 0.2 percent, and health by 0.1 percent. Conversely, the culture and entertainment group saw a slight decrease of 0.1 percent, while housing, water, electricity, gas, tobacco, and communications remained unchanged.
Within the food and non-alcoholic beverages category, fish and seafood prices rose 6 percent, fruits 4 percent, sugar, jam, honey and sweets 3.5 percent, milk, cheese and eggs 2.1 percent, non-alcoholic beverages 0.9 percent, meat 0.8 percent, bread, cereals, oils and fats 0.7 percent, and other food products 0.4 percent, while vegetable prices fell 5.8 percent.
By governorate, Al Dhahirah recorded the highest inflation rate at 2.5 percent, followed by Al Dakhiliyah (2.1 percent), Muscat and Al Buraimi (1.7 percent), and South Al Batinah (1.5 percent). The South Sharqiyah and Musandam governorates saw increases of 1.1 percent, while North Sharqiyah and North Al Batinah rose 0.9 percent, and Al Wusta and Dhofar by 0.8 percent.
