MUSCAT – The project aims to leverage Oman’s natural water infrastructure to create a sustainable, high-value tourism landmark.
The initiative seeks to transform the dam and its surrounding environment into a tranquil attraction that combines natural beauty with environmentally responsible investment. The project supports national efforts to diversify tourism offerings while encouraging the optimal use of dams and wadis as recreational and economic assets.
Wadi Al Sarooj Dam is located within a catchment area of 51.3 square kilometres, with an average annual rainfall of 220 millimetres and a storage capacity of approximately 1.35 million cubic metres. The dam, constructed as a compacted rockfill and concrete structure, has a length of 160.8 metres and a height of 125.5 metres, with a concrete spillway.
The tourism development plan includes the establishment of a café overlooking the lake, outdoor seating areas set within a serene natural environment, and a restaurant with views of the dam frontage, covering a total land area of 5,076 square metres.
According to the Ministry, the project is expected to create future investment opportunities, support sustainable local development, and enhance tourism activity in Musandam. The development works are being executed by Sultan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Saadi Trading Establishment.
