Oman signs AI-driven data deal to accelerate smart city vision

A strategic memorandum of understanding between the National Centre for Statistics and Information and Future Cities Company, a subsidiary of the Omantel Group was signed.

Muscat: Under the memorandum, the two sides will collaborate on key areas including data purification and processing, the development of artificial intelligence–based solutions, and joint work on the “Eye of Oman” platform for monitoring and security systems. The partnership is expected to strengthen information integration and improve the efficiency and quality of data used to support decision-making across government entities.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the National Centre for Statistics and Information by Dr. Khalifa bin Abdullah Al-Barwani, Chief Executive Officer of the Centre, while Engineer Abdullah bin Rashid Al-Badi, Chief Executive Officer of Future Cities Company, signed on behalf of the company.

Dr. Al-Barwani said the memorandum reflects the Centre’s ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships with national institutions in the fields of artificial intelligence and data quality improvement. He noted that the cooperation will enable the Centre to benefit from innovative solutions that support the development and analysis of statistical data, while enhancing its ability to provide accurate indicators that aid policymakers and decision-makers.

He added that the use of the “Eye of Oman” platform will provide added value by enabling real-time monitoring and analysis of field data, supporting smart city projects and data-driven planning across the Sultanate.

For his part, Engineer Al-Badi said the agreement marks an important step in expanding Future Cities Company’s role as a technology partner for government institutions. He explained that the cooperation will allow the company to deploy its expertise in data purification and Internet of Things technologies to strengthen the national data ecosystem.

He further noted that integrating the capabilities of both entities will help develop innovative smart solutions that enhance the efficiency of government services and support the growth of smart city initiatives.
