Muscat — Oman issued 77,950 new national identity cards in 2024, marking a 16% decline compared with the previous year, according to figures released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information.

The data reflects a year-on-year reduction in the number of newly issued Omani ID cards, which are mandatory for citizens to access a wide range of public and private services, including banking, healthcare and government transactions.

The national ID system forms a core pillar of Oman’s digital governance framework, supporting population records, civil registration and the delivery of e-government services across the Sultanate.
