MUSCAT : Oman has increased spending on its health sector, lifting the Ministry of Health’s budget to around RO 1 billion in 2026 as it advances an expansion of hospitals and health centres approved under the Tenth Five-Year Development Plan, officials said.

The government approved the construction of 11 hospitals and 19 health centres and institutions during the plan period. Of these, four hospitals and 12 health centres have already been completed and brought into service.

Authorities plan to commission five additional hospitals and five health centres and institutions in 2026, further expanding access to healthcare services across the sultanate.

The rise in health spending comes as Oman’s economic activity continues to strengthen. His Excellency Sultan Salim Al Habsi, Minister of Finance, said the economy has maintained steady growth, with improving macroeconomic indicators supporting higher allocations to priority sectors such as healthcare.

Health sector spending has increased by about 4%, from RO 970 million in 2020 to approximately RO 1 billion in 2026, reflecting the government’s focus on strengthening healthcare infrastructure and improving service delivery nationwide.
