MUSCAT : Oman has no plans to lift or change subsidies for electricity and fuel, Finance Minister His Excellency Sultan bin Salem Al Habsi said on Thursday, signalling continued government support for households despite the completion of the fiscal balance programme.

“There is no change regarding support for electricity and fuel, and the support will not be lifted,” Al Habsi said during a media briefing.

The minister said the fiscal balance plan and its initiatives have concluded, adding that the government is now focused on ensuring citizens are able to live at a level that reflects national priorities and social stability.

Oman has undertaken wide-ranging fiscal reforms in recent years to strengthen public finances, including spending controls and measures to boost non-oil revenues, while maintaining targeted subsidies to cushion the impact of higher living costs.
