Muscat: Engineer Sultan bin Ahmed Al-Wahaibi, Chief Executive Officer of the Oman Broadband Company, said the total number of units covered by the fibre-optic network reached 926,884 units by the end of November 2025 across various governorates. Of these, 415,792 units are in Muscat Governorate, while 511,092 units are located outside the capital.
He added that the company’s subscriber base has grown to 326,406 active subscribers, surpassing the 320,000 mark for the first time since its establishment, reflecting the success of its expansion strategy and the delivery of high-quality services. Network coverage has now exceeded 87 per cent in Muscat Governorate and reached around 56 per cent outside Muscat during 2025.
Al-Wahaibi said the company’s forward plan focuses on accelerating fibre expansion while increasing investment in infrastructure and strengthening partnerships with key stakeholders to meet the one-million-home target. Development is currently under way in Sultan Haitham City, Al Khuwair Downtown and the Al Thuraya City project, in line with smart city standards, ensuring future-ready infrastructure and high-speed connectivity for education, residential and commercial facilities, as well as government services.

Since its establishment in 2014, the company’s investments and movable assets have exceeded RO 327 million, underlining its long-term commitment to strengthening Oman’s telecommunications sector. During 2025, fibre-optic expansion extended to the wilayats of Bukha and Dibba in Musandam Governorate, while Khasab and Madha were covered in earlier phases, alongside multiple wilayats in other governorates.
Al-Wahaibi noted that Oman has witnessed tangible progress in communications infrastructure, evident in the sharp rise in subscribers and network reach, which is supporting the digital economy and improving quality of life and public services. He also highlighted that the company has achieved an Omanisation rate of over 99 per cent, while 39 per cent of work has been awarded to small and medium enterprises, supported through initiatives aimed at capacity building and international accreditation.
He affirmed the company’s continued support for community initiatives and social investment in education, health, sports and youth empowerment, contributing to sustainable development across the Sultanate.
