Muscat — Oman’s Tax Authority has issued a public awareness notice explaining the purpose and use of the excise tax digital stamp, a mandatory mark affixed to products subject to excise tax in the Sultanate.
The digital stamp, which carries a unique QR code, is applied to excise goods such as tobacco products, energy drinks and certain beverages with special characteristics that are deemed harmful to health or the environment. Authorities said the measure is designed to confirm that excise tax has been duly paid on these products and that they have entered the market through legal channels.
According to the Tax Authority, the system also plays a key role in preventing the smuggling of excise goods and limiting the circulation of counterfeit and adulterated products, thereby protecting consumers and ensuring fair competition in the market.

Consumers and retailers can verify the authenticity of excise goods by scanning the digital stamp using the “Ta’akad” mobile application. The app allows users to instantly check whether a product is properly registered and compliant with excise tax regulations.
The authority urged the public and traders to ensure that excise goods carry the approved digital stamp, stressing that verification helps safeguard public health, supports regulatory compliance and strengthens oversight of excise-taxed products in Oman.
