MUSCAT : Publicly insulting or defaming a foreign head of state while in Oman is punishable by imprisonment ranging from three months to three years.
The law applies to anyone who commits a public act of defamation or insult against the head of a foreign state during their presence in the Sultanate, as well as against an officially accredited representative of that state, or insults either of them in their official capacity, the provision states.
The penalty framework underscores Oman’s legal emphasis on respecting diplomatic norms and maintaining cordial relations with foreign states and their representatives.
