MUSCAT : The meeting took place during the visit of His Excellency Professor Dr. Lenar Savin, President of Kazan Federal University, who was received by His Highness Sayyid Dr Fahad pin Al Julanda Al Said, President of SQU.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed ongoing joint programmes and initiatives, including the Arabic Language and Omani Culture programme, which has been running for two years, as well as this year’s cultural programme that hosted SQU students in June. Discussions also covered the student exchange initiative, which has enabled Kazan University students to study at SQU since 2024, and cooperation in postgraduate programmes.

The two universities also highlighted their achievements in research collaboration, which has produced 43 joint publications in environmental sciences and 16 in agricultural and marine sciences. They noted the signing of a joint funding programme for research projects and the exchange of academic delegations, both of which have contributed to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Looking ahead, the meeting addressed future plans, including funding joint research projects in the fields of oil and gas, hosting medical students from Kazan University at SQU, and beginning to accept additional Kazan University students starting next year.
The discussion also touched on the conference SQU will host next April, as well as the cultural and developmental dimensions of Omani-Russian relations, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the Sultanate of Oman and the Russian Federation.
