Oman bans import of live cloven-hoofed animals from several countries

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has issued Ministerial Decree No. 286/2025 imposing a temporary ban on the import of live cloven-hoofed animals from specific regions in a number of countries.

MUSCAT : The decision, issued in accordance with the Veterinary Quarantine Law and its executive regulations, follows recommendations from the competent veterinary authority and comes as part of precautionary measures to protect animal health in the Sultanate of Oman.

Under the decree, the import of live cloven-hoofed animals, along with their products, derivatives and by-products, is prohibited from the Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal provinces in the Republic of South Africa; Lubombo in the Kingdom of Eswatini; the Plateau-Central and Centre regions of Burkina Faso; Grande Comore Island in the Union of the Comoros; and the Ganja-Gazakh region in the Republic of Azerbaijan. The ban will remain in effect until the underlying reasons are resolved and a new decision is issued.

The decree exempts products, derivatives and waste that have been heat-treated or processed in accordance with the Terrestrial Animal Health Code of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH).
Relevant authorities have been instructed to implement the decision within their respective jurisdictions.
