Sao Paulo: The remarks were delivered by His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al-Amri, President of the Environment Authority, at a high-level meeting of world leaders in Belém, Brazil, ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) set to begin in two days with participation from 200 countries.
In his address, His Excellency Dr. Al-Amri emphasized that Oman Vision 2040 has placed environmental sustainability and climate action at the forefront of the national agenda. He highlighted the Sultanate’s progress in implementing the National Strategy for Carbon Neutrality, activating the National Carbon Register, and advancing Article 6 policies under the Paris Agreement, alongside major renewable energy initiatives.
HE Dr. Al-Amri warned of the growing threats posed by climate change, pointing to rising global temperatures, melting ice caps, biodiversity loss, and recurring forest fires as undeniable evidence of the planet’s distress. Citing the recent climate report issued last October, he noted that global action remains “below ambition,” urging nations to accelerate efforts to address the crisis.

He further called for a reassessment of the current global environmental institutional system, noting that outdated governance models have slowed progress and fragmented efforts. “Institutional governance is the foundation of success in unifying efforts and confronting challenges,” he said.
Oman, he explained, is already implementing adaptation projects such as early warning systems, flood protection infrastructure, and the development of resilient, sustainable cities, while also expanding the use of nature-based solutions to combat environmental risks.
Concluding his remarks, HE Dr. Al-Amri reaffirmed that development and sustainability must advance hand in hand. Achieving a just and equitable transition is the path to a secure and prosperous future and preserving the environment is the best investment in the generations to come, he emphasized.
