MUSCAT : The event, hosted by Oman Sail in cooperation with the Omani Maritime Sports Committee and the International Optimist Federation, features over 180 sailors from 25 countries competing in Muscat’s challenging waters.
Day three of the championship showcased the growing strength of Oman’s sailing talent, with young sailors Mohammed Al Qasmi, Khalid Al Suraihi, and Khamis Al Mashaikhi successfully qualifying for the gold group, which includes the top 59 sailors in the overall standings.

The three will now battle for top positions in the final stage on Friday, while other Omani participants continue racing in the silver and bronze groups.

Ensuring safety throughout the event has been a top priority, said Mohammed bin Ali Al Balushi, the championship’s safety officer. He highlighted the close coordination between the safety team and the Royal Oman Police Coast Guard to oversee all race stages and prevent any incidents. Al Balushi noted that changing sea conditions and strong winds have been among the main challenges, requiring high alertness and swift response.
“Omani personnel today possess extensive experience in managing the safety system according to the highest international standards,” he emphasized.
