MUSCAT – To enhance food safety and protect consumer health, the ministry mandates that establishments exporting specific food products must obtain accreditation before their products are allowed entry into Oman.
According to the Food Safety Law issued by Royal Decree No. 84/2008 and its executive regulations and amendments, the accreditation applies to the following food items:
• Canned fish products
• Farmed fish products
• Bottled drinking water
Importers have been given a grace period of six months from the date of this announcement to comply with the accreditation requirements for establishments in the country of origin or export.
The ministry urges all importing companies and institutions to take immediate action to meet these standards to ensure the uninterrupted flow of approved food products into the country. It also clarifies that it will not be responsible for any financial consequences resulting from contracts made with non-accredited food establishments.
Applications for accreditation should be submitted via email to the Food Safety and Quality Centre.
